In an announcement that was teased yesterday through various social media channels, Square Enix revealed today about their multi-year creative partnership with Marvel Entertainment.
The partnership involves Marvel licensing out their Marvel Super Heroes brand with Square Enix for several years as the latter develops several games for the franchise. Square Enix will kick off their partnership by developing an original game based on “The Avengers,” temporarily called “The Avengers Project.” Other titles in the pipeline as well as more details about “The Avengers Project” will be shared sometime in 2018.
It’s exciting to bring together Square Enix’s award-winning development studios with Marvel’s extraordinary storytellers to establish a new entertainment powerhouse. This collaboration of passion and talent will craft epic, imaginative experiences allowing gamers to live out their Super Hero dreams like never before. -Square Enix Americas CEO Phil Rogers
Unlike other licensed games that bear the “Avengers” name, “The Avengers Project” will apparently have a completely original project. Square Enix has already assigned Crystal Dynamics and Eidos-Montreal to work together in the project. Crystal Dynamics is the studio behind the “Tomb Raider” games, while Eidos-Montreal worked on the recent “Deus Ex” series.
To cap off the announcement, Square Enix also shared an announcement trailer for “The Avengers Project.”
