Nintendo's beloved "Pokémon" franchise is gearing up to release yet another creature to the ever-growing Pokédex. On April 7, the official "Pokémon" Twitter account shared the trailer for the newest movie installment, "Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction." To coincide with the Japanese release of the film, Nintendo will be giving away the titular "Pokémon" to those who purchase tickets. The film features Diancie as a key player in saving the world from the Destruction Pokémon Yvetal (the legendary Pokémon of "Pokémon Y").
Diancie, a Rock/Fairy type, enters the Pokédex at #719. The event Pokémon is Level 50 and knows the moves Diamond Storm, Moonblast (a Fairy-type move), Reflect, and Return. It holds a Normal Gem as well (a one-use item that boosts a Normal-type attack).
There are many speculations on Diancie's role in the new Mega Evolution mechanic, which was introduced in "Pokémon X/Y." It is thought that the pink stone on Diancie's head ties it to the Anistar Sundial, a key landmark in Anistar City which helps the player locate the Mega Stones required to perform Mega Evolutions and the first usage of Mega Evolutions. This theory, as well as many others, surround the Pokémon who sports a new dual typing for the series (as the Fairy type was only introduced in the most recent games).
Diancie will be available from July 19 until Sept. 30 to Japanese players. Currently, there is no schedule for Diancie's release in North America.
