You hear a noise echoing in the distance, it sounded like a triumphant roar … or maybe a terrifying scream. Pushing forward you find yourself confronted with a band of heroes standing over the body of some dreadful beast, the wizard whimpering softly to himself. A figure burst through the tree line, scattering D20’s everywhere and exclaiming, “WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF PIXEL HEROES - BYTE AND MAGIC”
Published by Headup Games and developed by The Bitfather studio, the world of “PIXEL HEROES – Byte & Magic” is waiting for you to heed its call and head onto steam to check out this RPG/Roguelike/Pixel Adventure. Filled with dangerous demons, daring heroes, daunting dungeons, and more "D’s" than I can possibly come up with!
Developed in Unity, The Bitfather studio have crafted an interesting looking game, with just the right amount of quirkiness to make a tried and true dungeon crawl feel fresh and fun. The games tone is aided by the style, don’t take yourself serious when playing and just have fun.
You’ll be leading a party of seasoned adventurers through a fully randomized world full events, choices and deadly dungeons. Whilst meeting some of the most unusual and interesting NPCs that will have graced your screen. With over 30 classes to choose from and unlock, it’s up to you who joins on each adventure, each hero bringing their own abilities and skills to the fight and each with a desire to live beyond the first room. It's permanent death though, so choose wisely, and don’t complain when your party of archers all die. (I warned you to choose wisely!) Random events will populate your journey to the dungeon making each journey unique and the choices entirely yours and yours to blame when it was the wrong one.
Pixelated loot is your reward, and “more procedurally generated axes, spears, maces, swords, shields, bows, crossbows, spells, and prayers than a lama has hair on its body” will be your tools.
Thirteen dungeons will be either the site of your triumph or demise with a boss waiting for you at the end of each one along with a final boss at the end of a campaign. Fear not, though, because you may lose heroes, you may die, and you be forced to start again in a whole new pixelated version of your world … magic I guess … but you can always return to your graveyard and mourn the loss of that level 1 barbarian slain by the wicked frost giant because you got cocky and thought, "healing? Nah." The Graveyard will only get bigger as you explore and fight, expect to die and relish in the challenge.
The game also promises achievements and unlockables, a perfect to show you are the greatest Pixel Hero that has crossed the threshold and said “I am a Hero! I did not take an arrow to the knee!”
“Pixel Heroes – Byte & Magic” is coming to Steam on the Feb. 9, so don’t forget to check back on Player Theory, because we are going to have a full hands on review!
