In a fairly amusing new trailer for the upcoming new Legend of Zelda game entitled "Breath of the Wild," we get a look at a new game mechanic - cooking.
It looks as though while traveling the world, Link will be able to gather different ingredients from plants, roots and animals, and then use them to create dishes that have different effects. In the video, he makes a hearty mushroom dish that gives him more health (useful before a big fight) and a spicy pepper dish that helps him fight off the cold in arctic environments. He can also mess up, though. By mixing too many ingredients that don't go well together, he made a "Dubious Food" dish which didn't really provide many benefits.
The mechanic is kind of reminiscent of games like "Don't Starve" or "Skyrim," where players were able to find a wide assortment of ingredients and cook them together to different effects.
"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" is set for release in 2017, on the yet-to-be-released Nintendo NX system and the WiiU. As I make too much "Dubious Food" at home as it is, we are also hoping for an official Legend of Zelda cookbook to follow the game's release.
