The Dragon Ball series has no shortage of fun fighter-type games, but at Microsoft's E3 conference, the announcement of "Dragonball Fighter Z" definitely looks like it wants establish itself as the king of them all. Check out the reveal trailer below:
Developed by Arc System Works (creators of "Guilty Gear"), "Dragonball Fighter Z" looks like it's giving up the massive 3D arenas we've seen in most Dragonball games of late, for a return to a more traditional 2D stage - giving it a very "Guilty Gear" kind of feel, which is fantastic. The graphics look amazing and the gameplay looks fast and looks to have a lot more mechanical depth then any other game using the Dragonball IP. The 3v3 mode that was shown looks intense, and should be a crazy amount of fun.
The final roster will be interesting to see. Many other Dragonball games have had rosters of 100+ characters...but those games lacked a lot of the depth that "Dragonball Fighter Z" seems to be promising. Based on the appearance of Golden Frieza, I'm sure we can expect to see a lot of the cast from Dragon Ball Super, but I wonder who else is going to make the cut.
Most excitedly (for some, I suppose), is that this looks like it has the potential to become a real competitive fighting game, which is something that I would've expected a Dragonball game to be shaped into a long time ago.
"Dragonball Fighter Z" is set for release early 2018 on Xbox One, PC and PS4
