Nintendo told Polygon that "Fire Emblem Fates" will introduce same-sex marriages. However, it should be noted that the versions of the game will dictate what the same-sex relationship can be.
In the Conquest edition of the game, there is a male character that the game's player may have his/her male main character marry after they bond in battle. Similarly, the Birthright edition features a female character that a female main character may marry after bonding in battle. Both of the aforementioned characters can be encountered in the third edition of the game. Nintendo
So as it stands, the same-sex male relationship is for Conquest, the female one is for Birthright, and both can be done in the third storyline. It seems that in order to see both same-sex relationships, people will have to buy both the games and the third storyline. Whether Nintendo will release an edition that bundles all three storylines outside of Japan isn't known yet.
"Fire Emblem Fates" comes out in Japan June 25, 2015 while the United States and Europe will see releases sometime in 2016.
