Speaking at PAX East, Gearbox has officially confirmed that we will be seeing more Borderlands games...but not before they are done with their new shooter "Battleborn" and any DLC tied to that title.
It's no secret, obviously there's going to be another Borderlands. ...We don't even know if we're going to call it that. We could call it Borderlands 4 for all we know."
Randy Pitchford, Gearbox CEO/President
Gearbox has already hinted that "Battleborn" is going to have a lot of "Borderlands"-related Easter eggs - but now they've also teased that some of those Easter eggs will be for the next game in the "Borderlands" universe.
They haven't revealed much about the new game yet, as all of their resources seem to be rightfully focused on their upcoming release, but we do know that "Battleborn" art director Scott Kester and chief creative Mikey Neumann already have their names on the new "Borderlands" project.
Given the early stages of the development, we have no details on a possible release date or even what systems they're going to launch on. Stay tuned to Player Theory as more details on the next "Borderlands" come to light.
