Master Chief is back.
Today, developer 343 Industries officially announced the new 'Halo" sequel, "Halo 5: Guardians", to launch on the Xbox One in Fall 2015.
In the announcement, 343 assured they intend to deliver "the "Halo" game that fans deserve and a game that is built from the ground up for the Xbox One." This means that "Halo 5" will have a completely new graphics engine, and possibly run at 60 frames per second. At E3 last year, "Halo 5" was expected to have dedicated servers and run at 60 frames per second. According to Frank O'Conner in a recent Halo Waypoint blog post, while dedicated servers and 60 fps is still the plan, "these must-haves are not necessarily easy to achieve." The announcement also acknowledges the friction within the "Halo" community with regards to "Halo 4," and that they plan to re-kindle those flames and the love of their fans:
It’s a game that will hopefully demonstrate the talent, learnings, and abilities of the 343 Industries team. A game that will incorporate the things we learned from “Halo 4” about technology, aesthetics, performance and scale - and perhaps more importantly, understanding and embracing a community of gamers who love what lies at the heart of this game, and the limitless potential of the “Halo” universe.
The E3 2013 quote of "Your journey begins in 2014" was also addressed in the announcement. The announcement assured fans that the journey will begin in 2014, but that is not the destination - alluding to "Halo 5: Guardians" being the destination but not the starting point. This could mean anything from the almighty "Halo 2: Anniversary" the community has been begging for since "Halo 4," some other way of interacting with the "Halo" universe, or just more information and ways to begin to understand what's coming in "Halo 5: Guardians." More information will be revealed at E3 this year on June 9, and 343 is "pretty confident that "Halo" fans will be pretty excited about the special plans we have in store."
"Suffice to say, another shoe has yet to drop."
