Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe announced today that free to play mobile game “PAC-MAN 256” will see a digital PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC release on June 21 to coincide with the mascot’s 36th birthday.
The mobile game was originally released last year for iOS, Android, and Amazon. Developed by Hipster Whale and 3 Sprockets for both mobile and consoles, “PAC-MAN 256” will contain features exclusive to the console versions, as well as ten themes already unlocked. Local co-op multiplayer will also be available, allowing up to four players to play and work together to rack up the points. The game’s namesake glitch, “256 Glitch,” will also be present in the console versions. Online multiplayer has not yet been announced at this time, though the social sharing option will be available.
“We wanted everyone to enjoy PAC-MAN 256, so it was a logical decision to make it available on PS4, Xbox One and PC,” said Benjamin Prenom, project owner at Bandai Namco Europe.
3 Sprockets Director Seon Rozenblum has expressed similar excitement about the game.
“We have really enjoyed working with BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment and Hipster Whale on PAC-MAN 256 for mobile, and having the opportunity to ship it on the latest generation of consoles and PC is the icing on the cake for us!”
“PAC-MAN 256” will be available in the PlayStation Store, Xbox Games Store, and Steam for a suggested retail price of €4.99 or equivalent for other currencies. Curious pellet eaters right now can download the mobile game and purchase the “Coin Doubler” for €2.99/$2.99 instead of €4.99/$4.99. The sale will run until May 27.
