In an open letter to fans of the series, IO Interactive has revealed details about the next "Hitman" installment. The release is slated for PS4, Xbox One, and PC with no details yet on a release date. This is welcome news considering the rumors swirling over its cancellation last week.
In the letter, IOI suggests a return to the series roots. Players will be placed in large arenas all over the world with several targets, and tools to dispose of them however they see fit. In fact, IOI cites the new level design as the "largest ever for a Hitman game." This design is in sharp contrast to the very linear and checkpoint-based approach of the previous title, "Absolution". Additionally, IOI mentions the bottomless pockets Agent 47 had in "Absolution" are also no more.
While IOI has eschewed some of "Absolution's" features, the Contracts mode will remain. Contracts mode allows players to create their own missions using the open-world design and challenge friends to compare their scores.
IO Interactive more details are to follow over 2014, so stay tuned to PT for further info.
