Initially released on June 24, 2011, "Kerbal Space Program" - the strange, fascinating, hilarious, intelligent, rocket-building, explosion-generating, space exploring simulator created by developer Squad - is getting an official v1.0 release on April 27th. Squad made the official announcement on their forums.
"Kerbal Space Program" has grown a lot since it first emerged with just a launchpad and a little tool-box full of rockets and fuel. Now, there is an entire, complex solar system to explore. There is still the sandbox mode, of course, but now there is a career mode, where the player has to actually fund their space program. And there is also a Science mode... a diet career mode, if you will, where the only thing that matters is SCIENCE! There are now more parts than you can shake several sticks at. The game has expanded well past just building space ships and getting them off the ground - now there is so much to see, explore and do out there among the stars.
The enthusiastic modding community has also done more than their fair share of expanding the game - creating parts both realistic and fantastical to broaden the experience of the games' brave little Kerbals.
There is a lot planned for the "official" release of the game, and it seems that Squad will be announcing the latest additions bit by bit as we get close to April 27th. What's first?
Who will be your first lady Kerbal in space?
