Kotaku acquired Darkside Games' version, as in the cancelled version, of the rebooted "Phantom Dust" game. Note that Microsoft is still making the game; at least, that's what they have said before. It's just that the gameplay for Darkside Games' version has been scrapped and Microsoft is working on something supposedly different.
From what was revealed, the main playable character was fighting a character from the original Xbox "Phantom Dust," Freia. The character possessed a wide variety of skills he could use in combat, such as throwing fireballs, whirlwinds, and other attacks. Of note is the destruction of the environment, which crumbled realistically to attacks.
It's unknown why Microsoft decided to shut down the studio as what was finished seemed well put together. The developers mentioned before to Kotaku that the development was going smoothly and the executives were impressed. What exactly caused the publish to pull the plug on the developer is unknown as well.
