There are millions of Minecraft players out there right now. And every one of them, at some point probably punched a tree as Steve - the lovable default skin for Minecraft. Mojang made an announcement today that they would soon be introducing a default female skin for players to use.
Jolly old Steve doesn’t really represent the diversity of our playerbase. For that reason, we’re giving all players opportunity to play with an Alex skin instead. She brings thinner arms, redder hair, and a ponytail; she actually looks a bit like Jens from certain angles.
Despite being designated a 'female' skin, Alex still maintains the blocky, androgynous look that binds all creations in Minecraft. As popular as Minecraft is with children, many girls will likely jump at the chance to utilize this new skin.
Alex will be made available to console players of Minecraft at no cost on Wednesday, April 29th.
