Nintendo of America announced through Twitter that they intend to support GameCube controllers for the WiiU version of “Smash Bros.” According to Nintendo for America:
Get excited! The #WiiU version of #SmashBros. will be playable with GameCube controllers. [sic]
Fans of the controversial console will be able to use controllers that are the most comfortable for them as they destroy their friends repeatedly in heated matches. But besides comfort, the support also allows people who don’t want to or can’t afford to buy three separate controllers for local matches. The WiiU Pro Controller sells for $40.99 on Amazon and Best Buy. While one doesn’t (necessarily) break the bank, three might.
The GameCube controller adapter may also provide support for other multiplayer games which utilize the old GameCube ports. Dance Mats, for example, still utilized the GameCube ports on the Wii. They currently require third-party adapters in order to plug them in, which can be messy if you need more than one.
