Nintendo just had their Nintendo Direct for September 2016, focusing heavily on the Nintendo 3DS, and there's a lot of information released.
"Super Mario Maker," previously on the Wii U, was announced that it was coming to the 3DS. However, one of the biggest features, the sharing of levels online, is excluded for the 3DS version. You can only share levels locally and through StreetPass. It'll be released on December 2, 2016.
A major update for StreetPass was announced. Quick Plaza will be added to make things up and the limit on how many people you can encounter at once, that limit being 10, is going to be increased to 100. There are also going to be new games added.
More amiibo have been revealed. This line is for "The Legend of Zelda" series. The new figures include an 8-Bit Link, just like the 8-Mario version, the "Ocarina of Time" incarnation of Link as he plays his Ocarina, and Toon Link & Toon Zelda. They'll be released on December 2, 2016. There isn't any word on when the Cloud, Corrin, and Bayonetta amiibo are coming out.
With the celebration of the 30th anniversary of "The Legend of Zelda" (seeing as "Breath of the Wild" will be missing on that), in addition to the amiibo, three Dark Horse comics are going to be released.
The next DLC pack for "Hyrule Warriors: Legends" was revealed, showing Toon Link with a sand wand and Toon Link in phantom form controlling an empty suit of armor.
"Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice" will be releasing on the 3DS on September 8, 2016.
"Dragon Quest VII" was shown off, which is being remade from the ground up. It'll offer "hours of new content" and will release on September 16, 2016.
"Poochy & Yoshi's Wooly World" was announced, which is basically the Wii U game (with nothing stripped away) but on the 3DS. Additionally, new sections are coming with Poochy. Poochy Pups are also being added, which help show invisible secrets. 30 shorts of Yarn Yoshi and Poochy. A Yarn Poochy amiibo was also revealed. The game, along with the Poochy amiibo and a bundle including the two, will be released on February 3, 2017.
"Mario Sports Super Stars" was announced. It'll be a compilation of Mario and friends playing classic sports from previous games, such as tennis, soccer, golf, baseball, and horse racing (that one being new). The game is set to release in Spring 2017.
The last reveal was for a new "Pikmin" game on the 3DS. This will be the first 2D (2.5D technically) side-scroller for the series. The Pikmin will be used for puzzles and fighting with a new perspective not seen yet in the series. Though the name isn't finalized yet, the game is set to release sometime in 2017.
