The closed beta for the new Blizzard IP “Overwatch” is returning to players in a few weeks according to game director Jeff Kaplan. In a official "blue post," Kaplan cites the desire to integrate player feedback without rushing the updated title out the door. Closed beta will return in approximately mid-February.
“Overwatch” shut down temporarily Dec. 10 shortly before the beta forums, which shut down Dec. 18. Blizzard promised to invite more players when the beta re-opened.
When the game returns, players can expect new maps, a new game mode, “one more big feature,” and “additional polish” according to Kaplan, none of which has been elaborated on.
While progress has been great and the team has been working super hard to get everything implemented on time, we're not quite ready to bring the Closed Beta back online just yet. Jeff Kaplan, “Overwatch” Game Director
“Overwatch” is still expected to release “before 06/21/2016” for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Pre-sales for the “Origins Edition” run for $59.99 on Battle.net. Players who purchase the game during this special receive in-game bonuses in all of the other Blizzard games, notably Tracer in “Heroes of the Storm.”
