According to KH13, a leak suggests that something called "Kingdom Hearts 2.9" exists.
The report comes from a Linkedln page for a designer for work on "Kingdom Hearts 2.9" and "Kingdom Hearts III," with KH13 verifying that other profiles linked to this particular page are legitimate. What exactly "Kingdom Hearts 2.9" is can't be said at this time. Note that numbers make up this particular title, while "Kingdom Hearts III" uses roman numerals. This could be a remastering of "Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance" and/or a combined product for "Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5." However, "Kingdom Hearts 2.9" is slated for both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, and it has been stated before that porting "KH 1.5 + 2.5" to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One aren't planned yet. "Kingdom Hearts 2.9" could also be a prologue segment for "Kingdom Hearts III," similar to "Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes" being a game that served as a sampler of what "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" would be like.
In addition to the Linkedln page, right before E3 2015, "Kingdom Hearts 2.9" was leaked on Square Enix's schedule, as the schedule was seen on the show floor. Whether this is real or, rather humorously, just a typo, isn't known, but signs point that "Kingdom Hearts 2.9" does or has existed.
Along side "Kingdom Hearts 2.9" on the Linkedln profile, there was additional information (assuming that the Linkedln page is in fact true and isn't fake) for "Kingdom Hearts III." Of note, the Gummi Ship system, multiplayer, Attraction Flow, and Pixar were mentioned- things that haven't really been given too much detail yet.
Whether or not this information is real is to be seen. Square Enix hasn't made a comment on the situation yet and may not say anything with the Tokyo Game Show being next week.
