According to sources reported by Giant Bomb, new information about the rumored upgraded PlayStation 4 has surfaced. It's being codenamed "Neo."
The report shows the how much improved the Neo's specs are above the regular PS4 model:
PS4: 8 Jaguar Cores at 1.6 GHz
Neo: 8 Jaguar Cores at 2.1 GHz
PS4: AMD GCN, 18 CUs at 800 MHz
Neo: Improved AMD GCN, 36 CUs at 911 MHz
PS4: 8 GB GDDR5, 176 GB/s
Neo: 8 GB GDDR5, 218 GB/s
Additionally, there will be two modes for the new system. One is the "Base" mode, where it'll run just like the previous mode. The other mode is "Neo" mode, where it'll run the improved specs. Sony also states that no game is supposed to be exclusive to the Neo mode, trying to prevent the separation of the two models.
Plenty of information about this new rumored hardware is unknown, such as any upgrade plan for those who already own an original PS4 (if there is any) and when it actually comes out. Sony is expected to reveal the new hardware sometime before the PlayStation VR releases this year.
