CD Projekt Red has released a teaser trailer for an expansion to the wildly popular "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" which was released earlier this year. The expansion is called: "Hearts of Stone."
The "Hearts of Stone" expansion for "The Witcher 3" introduces 10 hours of additional story, accessible at any time, but recommended for players above level 30. This expansion takes place near Novigrad and Oxenfurt and will have Geralt contracted to bring down a bandit leader with the power of immortality.
It also introduces a new gameplay mechanic called "Runewords." According to CD Projekt Red, "Each Runeword will impact a different aspect of in-game mechanics and will allow the players to experiment with various strategies and tactics." While fairly vague right now, it will be interesting to see exactly what it brings to the already vibrant "Witcher 3" table.
People that have played the entire "Witcher" series probably remember a certain red-haired medic named Shani from the very first game. In this expansion, she re-enters the story and is likely another romance option for Geralt.
"Hearts of Stone" is due for release on October 13th of this year. There will also be a physical release that will come with two Gwent decks - Monsters and Scoia’tael. If you got the expansion pass when you originally purchased "The Witcher 3" and you want the collectible (and playable) Gwent decks, you can grab them at this website.
This is the first of two expansions planned for "The Witcher 3." The next expansion, "Blood and Wine," is due for release early next year.
