Prepare your wallets, the Steam Summer Sale 2014 dates may have been leaked, and they are coming sooner than expected. Electronic payment retailer paysafecard posted an ad earlier today advertising the Steam sale as running from June 19-30.
It's worth noting that no official confirmation from Steam has been released. paysafecard is currently exchanging gamers' registrations to the service for entries to win one of 250 gift cards. Those of you feeling lucky may enter the contest here.
While the dates are a little earlier than expected (generally speaking the sale has started in late-June/early-July), they do make some sense. First, June 19-30 means the sale fits the traditional 12-day window. Second, they are scheduled in the wake of the massive hype generated by E3, when gamers are most hungry for new games to play. Lastly, "Dota 2's" International championships would conflict with the typically expected July dates.
Steam Sales have been a key component to the online retailer's business model. The massive pricedrops across hundreds of games over several days has generated seasonal fervor for years. Many games are swapped in and out over the 12 days, and some are kept in for the duration of the event.
Either way, be prepared to own many games that you'll never play. You've been warned.
