SCS Software posted in their blog recently that two of their truck-driving simulation games, "Euro Truck Simulator 2" and "American Truck Simulator", got in the top 200 list of Steam games with the largest workshop despite being in open beta.
Following the March 14 workshop open beta for "Euro Truck Simulator 2" and March 16 open beta for "American Truck Simulator", the modding community has currently uploaded a total 258 mods for both games. Available mods range from custom paint jobs to more realistic game mechanics, though SCS has blocked the creation of map mods in the meantime.

Steam workshop support for both games enabled modders to upload their creations using the SCS Workshop Uploader. In turn, this allowed players to choose from a variety of available mods without the risk of viruses or malicious redirects. Installed mods also get automatically updated as mod creators continue to tweak their creations.
However, not everybody seems to be celebrating with the company.
“I really wish the 'Power Of Community' would convince you to actually buff the actual game instead of worrying about custom lug nuts,” replied a user named Coma White.
Most of the commenters on their blog post as well as their Facebook page openly criticized the company’s preference of releasing numerous paint jobs instead of other features. Some of the more common complaints include highway exit improvements and better AI settings for "Euro Truck Simulator 2." SCS even acknowledged their own shortcomings in terms of updates.
“If you take your time to regularly read the blog comments (we do!), you may have noticed a constant reminder from a reader in Hungary demanding that we release an official paintjob pack, or very frequent demands of the same type from the Turkish fan community. Well, somebody was actually quicker than SCS Software and offered community version of Hungarian Paintjobs and Turkish Paintjobs!”
SCS is currently working on a France expansion for "Euro Truck Simulator 2" and an Arizona expansion for "American Truck Simulator".
