Love them or hate them, you have to say that the "Sharknado" movies have become a cult sensation. Hot on the heels of the 4th "Sharknado" film which premiered at the end of July, Devious Devices has just started the Kickstarter for "Sharknado: The Board Game."
The game is described as a cooperative experienced designed for two to four players. At the beginning of each game, a scenario is chosen and the players have to work together to complete different goals in order to "win" that scenario - all the while, dodging flying sharks and avoiding shark/tornado-related obstacles. Obviously, the game takes all kinds of cues from the extensive source material, so fans of the franchise will likely love all the crazy equipment, types of enemy sharks and weapon cards that characters can dig up while battling the army of tornado-powered sharks.
One of the big things in "Sharknado: The Board Game" is the environment. Besides the...y'know, shark-filled tornado destroy the city, the players have to worry about flooded parts of the city which can slow them down and provide dangerous havens for non-tornado-powered sharks. It's up to the players to strategically 'unflood' areas so its easier to move about and makes it more difficult for sharks to survive. Of course, the Sharknado itself is a part of the environment that the players have to worry about and besides fling sharks all over the place, it will also cause hexes on the board to flood again.
Needless to say, it's an uphill battle for the players the entire game. If you want to know more about how the game is played, Devious Device made a cool little video that does a good job of walking you through what happens during a round in the game:
"Sharknado: The Board Game's" Kickstarter is live now, and set to go until September 10th. They're looking for $49,999 and, as of the writing of his article, have received $12,400 in funding. If you want "Sharknado: The Board Game," $54 dollars will get you on the pledge level to receive a copy when it ships, which is estimated to be in April of 2017.
