At E3 today, Ubisoft announced "Star Trek: Bridge Crew" - a new VR title that puts the player (and their friends) in control of a Federation starship exploring an unknown part of space. Developed by Red Storm Entertainment ("The Division," "Far Cry 4"), "Star Trek: Bridge Crew" uses the power of virtual reality and the power of social presence to create a Star Trek experience that fans of the franchise have probably been waiting for since 1966.
To show off this new title, Ubisoft assembled an elite crew consisting of Karl Urban (Dr. Leonard 'Bones' McCoy of the new Star Trek movies), LeVar Burton (Lt. Geordi La Forge from Star Trek: The Next Generation) and Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine from Star Trek: Voyager). Check out the reveal trailer below to see their reactions and hear how they feel entering the world of Star Trek through VR:
"Star Trek: Bridge Crew" is playable solo, with the player taking the captain's chair and issuing orders to their NPC bridge crew, but the game probably truly shines in the up to 4-person multiplayer mode where the players take the role of Captain, Helm, Tactical or Engineering officers. The game utilizes full-body avatars, hand-tracking and even real-time lip syncing allowing everyone to see one another as they main their station on the bridge of the USS Aegis.
The game is scheduled for a Fall 2016 release date on Oculus, Vive and Playstation VR systems.
