With "Beyond Earth," Sid Meier brought us into the future, allowing us to colonize worlds and spread humanity throughout the stars. This week, 2K and Firaxis announced the next game coming from the legendary designer of the Civilization series, Sid Meier: "Starships."
"Sid Meier's Starships" promises to break the mold of the traditional "Civilization" style game, giving us a the chance at managing not a country or a planet, but a fleet of starships.
When designing Starships, I was intrigued by the idea of exploring the next chapter in the story of Civilization: Beyond Earth. What happens after we colonize our new home and eventually build starships to take to the stars? What has become of our long-lost brothers and sisters from the planet Earth? My goal was to create an experience that focuses on starship design and combat within a universe filled with interstellar adventure, diplomacy, and exploration.

Players will be put in charge of developing a federation of planets as they explore the galaxy, researching new futuristic technologies and engaging in a turn-based combat system. One of the most interesting mechanics of "Sid Meier's Starships" will most definitely be the ability to customize the starships in your fleet, giving players the chance to build the ships that they want
Each new campaign that the player plays will generate a new map of planets, with new combat missions which promises to greatly enhance the the game's replay ability.
People that played "Civilization: Beyond Earth" will also see some connections in the story between that game and "Starships."
"Sid Meier's Starships" is due for release Spring 2015 and will be available on PC, Mac and iPad.
