“World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth” hits shelves on Aug. 14 later this year. “Battle for Azeroth” is the seventh expansion for the “World of Warcraft” series for Blizzard Entertainment and features the two player factions - the Horde and the Alliance - battling one another for control over the planet Azeroth. The expansion was announced last November during BlizzCon.
Blizzard granted access to players for the “Battle for Azeroth” alpha in waves over the past few months. In this alpha, players can interact with the currently-developed content - which includes the new quest lines and new dungeons - in exchange for both technical and design feedback. The expansion is a deviation from the current expansion, “Legion,” in which both factions came together to take down the Burning Legion, a group of demons from Argus who have been a focal point of the game since the second expansion, “The Burning Crusade.”
“Battle for Azeroth” introduces new features to the core game:
- Stormfronts: 20-person cooperative battles against enemy commanders, a feature inspired by the original “Warcraft” RTS games
- Allied races: Unlockable, playable races encountered in Azeroth
- New dungeons, raids, and 110 level cap
Players can pre-purchase a regular edition of the game for $50 or the digital deluxe copy for $70. Both copies of the pre-purchase include a level 110 character boost, as well as access to four allied races before launch:
- Lightforged Draenei (Alliance)
- Void Elves (Alliance)
- Highmountain Tauren (Horde)
- Nightborne (Horde)
The Digital Deluxe Edition adds:
- Zandalar Gilded Ravasaur (Horde) and Kul Tiras Seabraid Stallion (Alliance) mounts
- Tottle pet
- ”Hearthstone” card back
- ”StarCraft II” sprays
- ”Heroes of the Storm” Primal Flamesaber mount
- ”Overwatch” voice lines, emotes, sprays, and icons
The Collector's Edition includes everything from the Digital Deluxe Edition as well as:
- Double-Sided Story Book: Elegy & A Good War
- Horde & Alliance Double-Sided Mark of Allegiance (Coin)
- Collector’s Edition Digital Soundtrack
Finally, Blizzard is introducing a new upgrade mechanic for those who purchase the digital versions of the game but still want the physical rewards from the Collectors Edition.
Upgrading from Standard or Digital Deluxe to Collector’s Edition
If you’ve purchased a digital copy of Battle for Azeroth, but want to upgrade to the Collector’s Edition, we will automatically credit you the cost of the digital copy in Blizzard Balance - as long as you enter the Collector’s Edition key before 11:59pm PST on December 31, 2018. When you enter the key from your Collector’s Edition, we will see the original transaction on your account and the credit will kick in. Remember, you will need to enter the Collector’s Edition key before the end of the year, as automatic Blizzard Balance credits will be turned off at 11:59pm PST on December 31, 2018.
Please note, if you bought a standard edition then upgraded to a digital deluxe, you will be credited for the original copy only.
Standard Digital / Digital Deluxe > Collector’s Edition
If you bought the Standard OR Digital Deluxe copy of Battle for Azeroth and pre-ordered the Collector’s Edition, your Blizzard Balance credit will be the price you paid for the original copy.
Standard Digital > Digital Deluxe > Collector’s Edition
If you bought the Standard digital copy, upgraded to Digital Deluxe at a later date, then pre-ordered the Collector’s Edition of Battle for Azeroth, your Blizzard Balance credit will be the price you paid for the original Standard Edition.
