Released in 2006, "Wurm Online" is a 3D MMORPG, and fights often for the title of the ultimate survival MMO. The game features PvE and PvR (Player Versus Environment & Player Versus Realm for the uninitiated) combat, "Wurm Online" is one of the grandfathers of MMO’s and has been alive and well for the last eight years, and this month, we get an update and a host of new features.
Challenge mode is the big highlight of this update. It is a massive 8x8 km server designed for the ultimate in PvP combat featuring the three kingdoms in a struggle for total domination. The server and current challenge stay persistent for the duration of one month, and scoreboards are presented with winners in different categories, each receiving special rewards and prizes at the end. The premise of the new challenge mode is to take grinding out of the equation, and put emphasis on the fun in creative chaos. To get there, characters will begin at a level which will allow them to get straight into the action, you won’t have to grind your way onto the battlefield and won’t feel outclassed by the majority of players around you. With enemies pushing your kingdom's borders you need to pull together with your fellow players and build the battlefield to your advantage.
Ever wanted to fire siege weapons? “Wurm Online” now has trebuchets, ballistae and the siege shield to defend yourself in assaults, and new defensive capabilities are introduced such as spike barriers, archery towers and magic turrets strengthening the defense. Resource spawns now exist at certain places providing quick means of procuring materials for building and crafting and creating strategic points for conflict. If you find yourself at a loss for equipment and supplies, you can now loot fallen friends and foes as well.
The new challenge mode allows players to reach higher skill levels and access content a lot quicker than usual, and players can monitor their online progress, results, and standings. Each month, winners will be announced, prizes awarded, and the server reset. After a grace period of approximately 5-10 days, another challenge is created, possibly adding new features, settings, and goals.
If you’re looking for a classic MMORPG experience and to get a chance to see the game in all its glory, now is a better time than ever. Jump in, gear up and get fighting.
