Speaking with Destructoid, Yacht Club Games Sean Velasco said that Nintendo won't be making the "Shovel Knight" amiibo. The figures will actually handled in the same factory as the "Disney Infinity" figures are made.
Yacht Club Games will be in charge of producing and distributing the figures while they're working with Nintendo for the technology.
We're basically licensing the amiibo technology from Nintendo, and they've been overseeing it every step of the way. From the design, to how the amiibo functions in the game, to making sure that it was all just perfect in every way.
But we're the ones that are dealing with the manufacturing and distribution, we're the ones that are talking with the toy and sculpture people. Even things like the packaging. Sean Velasco
Whether this means this particular amiibo will be easier to obtain than the elusive "Super Smash Bros." line of figures or not isn't known just yet, but seeing "Disney Infinity" hasn't run into this problem yet, the possibility is there. The "Shovel Knight" amiibo is set to release sometime soon, according to rumors, in October for North America and in November in Europe.
